What makes Thayer unique is the community. The relationships you build with your peers, teachers, faculty, and coaches make Thayer feel like a family. The community is very supportive — whether it’s going to watch your games or helping you to succeed in the classroom.

I plan to major in economics at Harvard University. After taking an Introduction to Economics class at Thayer, I became inspired to learn more about it in college. I chose Harvard because I want to have the opportunity to attend the best school in the world and play hockey for such a storied program.

AP History with Ms. Ferraro challenged me the most.

Thayer combines rigorous academics with top-tier athletics, so I needed to meet high expectations both in the classroom and on the ice. This taught me the importance of time management.

There were many, but if I had to choose just one, it would be Ms. Dillman, my senior year Calculus teacher. She was always available for extra help, whether it was early in the mornings before school or during her lunch. She was always there to answer any questions and help me better understand the material. Her energy and humor made it exciting to come to class every day.

Mr. Robey, my college counselor, was extremely helpful. As a recruited athlete, my deadline to submit an application was earlier than the standard deadline, and Mr. Robey was always there to help me to meet those deadlines. He spent a lot of his time during the summer editing and revising my essays, which was really supportive during the application process.

Both my mom and dad inspire me the most. I would not be where I am without all their help over the years. Their hard work, sacrifices, and support have allowed me to accomplish my goals, and I’m very grateful for everything they’ve provided for both me and my brother.

Some of my favorite memories from my time at Thayer are with my hockey teammates and friends. Whether it was sitting in the locker room talking before practice, playing “Taps” before every game, or team dinners at the rink, these are memories that I’ll never forget.

Everyone at Thayer — including my friends, classmates, teachers, college counselors, and coaches — have supported me in reaching my goals; they have always been there for me. Whether I just needed someone to talk to for advice or I If I needed help on an assignment, there was always someone I could go to for help.

Winter Wars is an all-time favorite Thayer tradition, as it showcases the enormous school spirit from students to faculty. The fun themes, the exciting games, and everyone's energy make this one of my favorite weeks at Thayer.
