Although there are endless things that make Thayer unique, one of my favorites is the faculty. Everyone who works at Thayer is truly so supportive, kind, and welcoming. I love being able to start a valuable conversation with any teacher by simply showing up at their office. I can talk about my success, stress, or even daily life.

I’m so excited to study communications and computer science at Boston College. My love for communications was inspired by my involvement in Voice magazine. I love the freedom to write about my interests, interview interesting people, and produce a magazine to share with the school. Through the class, I discovered that I love communicating with other people and working together to build something incredible.

As someone who tends to struggle in the STEM field, I was definitely most challenged in AP Computer Science with Mr. Cedrone. However, Mr. Cedrone truly wanted to see me succeed. He was constantly available for help, gave me helpful advice, and made a challenging class fascinating. I definitely discovered a love and passion for computer science through AP Computer Science.

I’m a huge fan of anything on the water. I love paddleboarding, swimming, kayaking, and boating. I absolutely love going to the beach and being on the water.

Thayer allowed me to discover and then cultivate my communication skills. Prior to Thayer, I was a pretty shy and awkward person. However, through the numerous public speaking activities, writing classes, and leadership opportunities, I have definitely grown my ability to effectively communicate. Thayer taught me to challenge myself and embrace difficulty. Now, I’m no longer afraid to address a large crowd, I can write persuasive essays, and I can find confidence to take responsibility in any given situation.

Avenger’s Endgame. I still get the chills every time Captain America says, “Avengers, assemble.”

Ms. Pena (OP) has had such a positive impact on me this year. Although she was never my teacher, she was always there to support me during Student Government, with my studies, or by offering advice. Whenever I felt stressed or overwhelmed, I could stop by her office and she would guide me and support me through my challenges. I remember panicking over a stressful Student Government meeting I had to run. Despite her busy schedule, OP helped me to calm down, organize through my notes, and find confidence to run the meeting. I know I can always turn to her for help, a laugh, or someone to talk to.

Going into the college process, I was definitely afraid and overwhelmed. I remember I couldn’t even press the “submit” button on my applications. Ms. Woods, my college counselor, recognized my stress and worked with me through each step. She spent her entire afternoon reading my essays, checking my resume, and cleaning up my applications. She then helped me gain the courage to press the “submit” button. She truly demonstrated the strength of Thayer faculty and staff. Instead of disregarding me, she recognized my fear and guided me throughout the process. Ms. Woods helped me to calm down, accurately highlight myself, and apply to my dream schools.

This might be a little weird, but I’m often inspired by my dog, Maeby. Maeby is a Chihuahua/weiner dog mix and she absolutely loves people. Every time I come home, she squeals with excitement and loves greeting me. She teaches me about unconditional love. From her, I learn to live my life by loving, supporting, and celebrating others.

The Senior Walk. At the end of each school year, the seniors leave a school meeting in a line while the rest of the school applauds them on their last day. I have never cried more, and I will never forget that moment. I loved seeing my Thayer family support me and celebrate such a special day. I got to walk through and see all my best friends, teachers, and family on my last day. I felt so connected to the community, and it was such a great way to end my senior year.

“Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts. I love the message, and it always gets me hyped up. (I also love the movie Cars).

Here at Thayer there is such an encouraging and supportive culture. Everyone wants to see each other succeed. My friends, classmates, and teachers are constantly helping me through challenging moments, celebrating successes, and cheering me on in my daily life. They teach me to step out of my comfort zone and take on new challenges. Whenever I’m at Thayer, I know that others want me to do my best. I gain the confidence and strength to do the things that often scare me or seem impossible.

I absolutely love Earth Day at Thayer. When the winter cold finally disappears, Thayer holds an annual Earth Day celebration. There’s music, outdoor activities, and speakers during a school assembly. I get to play some competitive Spikeball, relax on the Teardrop, and throw a Frisbee to friends. I love getting to celebrate the earth with friends by being outside and embracing springtime. It's such a fulfilling and memorable experience.
