The people make Thayer unique. Many private schools claim to be inclusive and vibrant communities, but the difference is that Thayer lives it. Our community is engaging and encouraging to all students. Also, the faculty and staff do an excellent job of supporting our students and making them feel seen.

Geometry Honors with Mrs. Lombardi.

My love for math! I have a passion for math that most don’t know about.

Thayer has taught me valuable people skills. Obviously, the academics have been top-notch, the sports take place in one of the most competitive leagues in the country, and the arts flourish with creativity, but what I learned most is how to interact with people. And that came from amazing teachers and staff because when it comes down to it, you need people skills above anything else in life.

Remember the Titans.

I think it would be Mrs. Lombardi, my advisor and geometry teacher. In ninth grade I took her Algebra class, which I found very straightforward. I decided that I wanted to challenge myself and take an Honors math class as a sophomore. Mrs. Lombardi told me it would be hard, and she was right. I struggled mightily, especially in the beginning, but what helped me the most was her meeting with me weekly to do extra help. She’d come to school an hour before the first bell once or sometimes twice a week to support me and make sure I wasn’t drowning in a hard class. That was the most “extra mile” moment for me.

My dad. My dad wakes up at 4 a.m. every day to take a train into Boston to support our family. He’s done it for over 30 years. His love and dedication to my family is unmatched. He’s taught me what it means to be loved and supported, and I can never thank him enough for that.

One of my favorite moments was actually going back to Camp Bournedale as a peer advisor before my senior year. Returning with about 20 seniors that I knew very well and about 120 ninth graders that I’d never met before was a blast and something I’ll always remember. My favorite moment of the day was sitting with the other 20 seniors around a campfire where we were all asked to talk about Thayer and how much it meant to us and the raw emotion and love that everyone showed was special and something I’ve only ever felt at Thayer. And later on, getting ice cream with everyone was fun, too.

My friends have always been there for me in the super-fun times and also in the very hard times that I’ve experienced in high school. My teachers have always been willing to take time out of their busy schedules to sit down and talk with me if I ever needed it. My college counselor actually met with me over the summer to work on my college essay, showing how much she truly cared about my success. And my coaches have always made sure to check on how I’m feeling or doing outside of practices and games, whether in school or in life.

It has to be Winter Wars. Every year Winter Wars is the most fun week on campus. Having all 500+ students competing and having fun on campus is unique to Thayer. You’ll never find a private school that’s having more fun than Thayer in the dead middle of winter.
