Thayer’s hallmark is the connection between students and teachers. There’s a vast network of teachers who have supported me, prepared me for college, and will continue to stay invested in me and my future.

I will attend Wellesley college. I’m currently undecided but will major in something applicable to law school.

During my senior year, the Words That Changed the World competition pushed me to my limits. I didn’t see myself as a particularly proficient public speaker, so I was initially apprehensive, but the competition proved an illuminating exercise in being uncomfortable and trying something new. With a lot of effort and the help of Ms. Hayman and Ms. Hines, I made it to the finals and performed a speech that really resonated with me.

On the eighth grade whitewater rafting trip, I caught a fish bare-handed. I’m still not quite sure how it happened, but I let the fish go after a few moments of mutual confusion.

During my Senior Project, I shadowed a judge at Brockton District Court; I observed the judicial system first-hand and gained a greater general perspective. 

I’m so grateful to Thayer for the opportunity to tackle my Senior Project; my month at Brockton District Court increased my confidence in becoming a district court judge. Thayer spurred my interest in the judicial system through classes like Law & Society and AP Government; extracurriculars like Mock Trial; and leadership positions like the Disciplinary Committee. I felt prepared to comport myself and represent Thayer in such a professional and serious setting.

Any Harry Potter movie. Or The Hunger Games. Sorry, I wish I could be more original.

When I was a junior and just starting to conceptualize the college process, my college counselor introduced me to all different types of schools before helping me to finalize my list. She helped me realize that it’s just as valuable to know what you don’t want in a college as it is to know what you do want.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I aspire to be a judge and RBG is a badass example!

It’s hard to choose! I’ll have to give two examples:

Ms. Gately taught me as a freshman in World History and as a senior in AP Government; she was also my Senior Project advisor. Her “extra mile” was actually coming with me to Brockton District Court, my Senior Project site, for a day! I was flattered by her involvement in my project; besides, not many kids can say they’ve been to court with their history teacher.

Ms. Ferraro was my AP United States History teacher and Mock Trial coach during my junior year when we were in hybrid learning (due to the COVID-19 pandemic). I really admire the effort she put into those Zoom classes; we were doing things like making dating profiles for Enlightenment thinkers or presenting Industrial Revolution inventions in the style of Shark Tank. Despite the virtual nature of the class, it was never difficult to pay attention. She’s still the teacher that I’m most excited to see in the hallway; she’s just the best!

Taylor Swift is my all-time favorite musical artist, but I hesitate to express a preference among her songs (seeing as they’re all flawless), so I’ll go with “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo.

I generally eat a salad; I admire how many healthy and fresh options Chef Doug provides.

It’s almost impossible to choose, but the stage crew’s snowball fight during intermission of our freshman-year fall musical, Beauty and the Beast, sums up the feelings of purpose, authenticity, and community that I experienced at Thayer. I’ve been a stage manager with the same group of stage crew members since 6th grade, and it meant a lot to work with my friends and enjoy that carefree moment together between acts. I’m really going to miss Thayer’s theater community next year.
