Thayer is an institution that welcomes change. Over the past six years, I’ve seen Thayer strive towards innovation and redefining education. I am especially impressed with the Middle School’s new video network (TATV) that allows students to create short and informative videos.

I’ll attend Howard University in Washington, D.C., to study Communications with a concentration in film and television.

My Global Scholars course was my most challenging course because it encouraged me to question systems of power. I had to arrive at class with an open mind, knowing that some paradigm shift may await me. Instead of viewing things at face value, I learned the importance of doing your own research and investigating the intent versus the impact of service work.

Despite my city upbringing, my ultimate goal in life is to own a ranch with some horses, cows, and pigs! The idea of waking up everyday somewhere pastoral with a bunch of four-legged friends is my personal bliss.

I entered Thayer still feeling insecure about my public speaking and leadership skills. However, with the numerous forms of clubs, sports, and artistic opportunities, I was able to assert myself as a leader within the avenues that made me feel most confident. There’s a place for everyone here.

Above all, I am most inspired by my parents. Not only are they a limitless source of encouragement, they have also kept their kindness, positivity, and passion for the arts in the most trying of circumstances.

Mr. Robey was such a tremendous help in my college process. We started by identifying what kind of a college experience I wanted. There were several schools I had in mind, but he also added to that list to ensure that I would find the perfect college for me. Even after I’d decided to attend Howard, Mr. Robey remained a continued source of support during my transition to higher education.

I was always a fan of “Breakfast for Lunch” days, but my favorite meals were spring rolls with rice. The entire lunch staff is phenomenal, and I appreciate their effort this year in maintaining positivity, kindness, and some yummy dishes!

Being a senior this year was not easy because there were so many missed opportunities for bonding and spending time with my classmates. However, I was really impressed with Thayer’s dedication to creating a memorable year. In a year where many proms were canceled, we were lucky enough to have a safe and enjoyable Senior Soirée to celebrate our year together.
