Rwanda Trip Application

The trip is open to students in grades 9 through 11. 

This is an opportunity for students to have a culturally enriching and educational experience in Rwanda. Students will become immersed in small, close-knit community settings. Our time with local service work will be with EarthEnable, Water Access Rwanda, Ampersand, and the Nyamirambo Women's Center. The trip will include a full-day safari in Akagera National Park. 

The cost of the trip is $5,000. Thayer Academy has limited funds available for financial assistance. Students interested in applying for financial assistance should respond to the financial aid questions in the parent/guardian section below. 

Important Dates

  • Monday, November 6: Trip application due
  • Monday, November 13: Decisions emailed to students along with deposit link
  • Monday, November 27: Trip deposits due
  • Friday, December 15: First payment due
  • Monday, January 15: Second payment due
  • Thursday, February 15: Balance due
Itinerary: June 15 - 24, 2024
Day 1
  • Depart from Boston, MA and travel overnight to Kigali, Rwanda
Day 2
  • Afternoon arrival at Kigali International Airport
  • Arrive at local guest house
Day 3
  • Visit the Rwandan Genocide Museum
  • Visit with leaders of ongoing reconciliation efforts
Day 4
Day 5
  • Community Engagement Day 1 - Good Health & Well-being with EarthEnable
Day 6
  • Community Engagement Day 2 - Clean Water & Sanitation with Water Access Rwanda
Day 7
  • Community Engagement Day 3 - Affordable & Clean Energy with Ampersand
Day 8
  • Full-day safari at Akagera National Park
  • Dinner and overnight near Akegera National Park
Day 9
  • Community Engagement Day 4 - Gender Equality with Nyamirambo Women's Center
  • Early dinner and depart for the airport for return flight
Day 10
  • Morning arrival to Boston, MA or NYC
