Thayer girls cross country earns ISL championship

The Thayer Academy girls varsity cross country team saw strong performances throughout its lineup Nov. 1 as it won the ISL championship.

"They ran an incredible race," said Head Coach Jeff Browne P '04, '05. "This is a very big victory, as this is a hard meet to win."

The squad finished the regular season with an 11-1 record. Its only loss was the first meet of the season to Nobles, the defending ISL champs.

After reeling off 11 straight victories, the Tigers entered the championships — which were held at St. Mark's in Southborough — as the second overall seed.

The seven varsity runners who secured the championship were: (Captain) Lilly Bradley '21, Meg Dugan '22, Eloise Daniello '22, Caitlin Fitzgerald '22, Sophia Hansen '23, Katie Wipf '23, and (Captain) Meghan Webb '20.

While the 2019 victory is cause enough for celebration, it's hard not to notice that six of those seven runners will return next year.

"The future is bright," said Browne.
