Last spring Thayer formed a Search Committee to conduct a national search to fill the position of Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity. After a comprehensive search process which included the review of over 100 candidate files, many dozens of reference checks and preliminary discussions, and full-day on-campus interviews for our finalists, Jenn Welch was named to the new role.
Jenn has worked at Thayer for 7 years as the Associate Director of Admissions and Director of International Enrollment. In addition, she has been the Upper School Diversity Coordinator, the faculty advisor for the OMEGA diversity club and the organizer of the Senior Project trip to China. She also coached the girls hockey team for 4 years. Prior to arriving at Thayer, Ms. Welch was an admissions associate at The Steppingstone Foundation, which supports the educational aspirations of students and families in the greater Boston area. She has also worked as a national diversity trainer at Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society, and has taught in the Boston Public Schools as an AmeriCorps volunteer.
"Ms. Welch's appointment, coupled with the Academy's absorption of Project RISE, represent important steps forward as we consider ways to strengthen further our community's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity," says Headmaster Ted Koskores '70 P'10, '13.
"I am thrilled to take on this new role, as it is an exciting time at Thayer Academy," says Jenn. "I have felt an overwhelming amount of support from my colleagues and friends which is what makes Thayer a special place to be a part of. I am inspired to celebrate all the unique and diverse talents that make up our community, and grateful for being given this opportunity."
