Girls Varsity Lacrosse Powers Through Two Wins

Girls Varsity Lacrosse turned in an impressive week, earning back-to-back victories through balanced scoring, disciplined defense, and exceptional play in goal.

The Tigers opened with a commanding 13–6 win over St. Paul’s in their home opener. A strong defensive presence set the tone early, while the midfield controlled possession behind AnneMarie Zukaukas ’28, who recorded five draw controls. Offensively, Thayer showcased its depth with contributions from eight different goal scorers, including Zukaukas, Lydia Kealty ’28, Bridget Haggerty ’28, Clare Carlin ’26, Hattie DiBattista ’26, Sophie Shone ’27, and Hailey Yates ’28. Molly Folkard ’28 anchored the effort in goal with seven saves.

Thayer followed with a tightly contested 9–8 win over The Governor’s Academy in its ISL opener. Key defensive plays and caused turnovers from Mikayla Barry ’26, Emily Crowley ’28, Kate O’Donnell ’28, Molly Bingham ’27, and Shea Richardson ’27 helped shift momentum throughout the game. Folkard delivered a standout performance with 15 saves, playing a pivotal role in securing the victory.

The Tigers now look ahead to their next matchup against Tabor Academy.

Girls Varsity Tennis Dominates Early Season

Girls Varsity Tennis opened the season in dominant fashion, sweeping both Portsmouth Abbey and St. George’s School by identical 9–0 scores.

Against Portsmouth Abbey, Thayer set the tone by sweeping all doubles matches, led by Lizzie Woods ’28 and Molly Dunigan ’28 at #1. The Tigers carried that momentum into singles play, where they controlled every match across the lineup.

The dominance continued in their league opener at St. George’s, where the Tigers once again swept doubles. Highlights included a comeback win at #1 doubles from Woods and Dunigan, and a resilient rally from Ella Aiello ’26, who fought back from a 5–2 deficit to win 9–7 in singles.

With depth and composure evident throughout the lineup, the Tigers are well-positioned as they prepare to host Austin Preparatory School.

Boys Varsity Tennis Shows Fight in Tough Loss

Despite a 7–0 loss to St. George’s, Boys Varsity Tennis delivered a competitive performance that the final score did not fully reflect.

Several matches were decided in dramatic fashion, including a three-set tiebreaker at #2 singles by George Moore ’28 and another tight three-set battle from Sam Hirsch ’29 at #5. The highlight of the day came in doubles, where Jack Aiello ’28 and Moore secured an impressive 8–5 comeback win at #1.

The Tigers will aim to build on their competitive showing as they travel to Belmont Hill.

Varsity Baseball Opens with Strong Win

Varsity Baseball kicked off the week with a 5–2 victory over Boston Latin School, fueled by strong pitching and timely hitting.

Tighe Greene ’28 impressed in his first varsity start, striking out eight over four innings. Bailey Greenstein ’27 earned the win in relief, while Tristan Sheehan ’27 closed the game with two strikeouts for his first save of the season.

Offensively, Alex Seegers ’27 delivered a key bases-loaded single to tie the game, and Dray Evriviades ’28 followed with the go-ahead RBI.

The Tigers now turn their focus to ISL play with a road matchup at Belmont Hill.

Varsity Softball Secures Gritty Road Victory

Varsity Softball earned a hard-fought 16–13 win over Winsor, showcasing resilience and offensive firepower in challenging weather conditions.

Ella Maiona ’28 led the way in the circle with nine strikeouts and contributed offensively with two RBIs. Izzy Berdik ’28 had a standout performance at the plate with a triple and three RBIs, while Reese Haskell ’29 added two RBIs and played a steady role behind the plate.

The Tigers maintained their lead throughout the game, demonstrating composure and execution despite the elements. They will next face St. Paul’s on the road.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse Battles Through Challenging Week

Boys Varsity Lacrosse faced a difficult stretch against strong competition but showed resilience throughout.

Against St. Paul’s School, the Tigers mounted an impressive comeback after trailing by six, cutting the deficit to two before falling 10–7. Dunnie Shaughnessy ’28 led the offense with four goals, while Gabe Moore ’26 added two goals and an assist.

In a matchup with St. Sebastian’s, the Tigers battled early to a 3–3 tie before falling 14–4. Moore contributed two goals and an assist, with additional scoring from Shaughnessy and Peter Cappadona ’27.

Thayer will look to bounce back at home against Belmont Hill.

Flashback: Varsity Swimming Excels at NEPSAC Championships

Varsity Swimming closed out its season with a strong showing at the NEPSAC Division III Championships at WPI. The boys team finished fifth overall, while the girls placed seventh.

The Tigers recorded 21 personal bests during preliminary heats, with 16 swimmers advancing to finals. Andrew Hernandez led the boys with a fourth-place finish in the 200 Individual Medley and fifth in the 100 Backstroke, while Mary O’Connor placed sixth in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke.

Beyond the results, the meet was marked by strong team spirit and support, providing a memorable conclusion to the season.
