Thayer Academy Cum Laude Society welcomes 28 new members

Thayer Academy has inducted 28 members of the Class of 2024 into its chapter of the Cum Laude Society. This significant honor is restricted to no more than 20 percent of the senior class and recognizes outstanding academic achievement.

The formal induction took place April 29 during a school assembly. Each senior received the official certificate and pin associated with membership in this national society, whose objective is to promote learning and scholarship in secondary schools.

On the evening of May 2, inductees were recognized in a ceremony held in the CFA’s Hale Theater. As is tradition, each inductee received a highly personalized tribute: their “Word,” an adjective that the faculty believes truly describes that student. Each particular word — and a paragraph explaining the reasoning behind the word choice (i.e., the impressive qualities of that student) — were read aloud before family, friends, and faculty and then presented to the senior as a citation.

Thayer’s Class of 2024 inductees are: Maxine Baker, Carter Bewley, Chris Cherry, AJ Choo, Calvin Cigna, Teddy Cohen, Grace Coughlin, Jake Crowley, Julia Fiorello, Charlie Gavin, Catherine George, Abigail Greenough, Alexa Hartman, Clare Hayes, Katie Holmes, Teri Homicile, Sebastian Keleher, Michelle Le, Aly Mantville, Razzi Masroor, Jack McCarthy, Elise Reinhard, Katelyn Sentnor, Cat Sheehan, Jack Shepherd, Matt Sullivan, Seneca Wallace, and Sundy Zimmerman.

The Cum Laude Society was founded in 1906 to recognize the scholastic achievement of seniors in secondary schools. The Thayer Academy chapter of the Cum Laude Society received its charter in 1930.

While the April 29 event was the first of several year-end celebrations of the Class of 2024, induction into the Cum Laude Society is the only recognition based purely on academic excellence.

The Thayer Academy Cum Laude Committee includes: Upper School Math & Computer Science Department Head Kevin Cedrone P ‘22, ‘27; Upper School History Teacher Matt Dunne; Upper School Math Teacher Derek Keough ‘12; and Upper School World Languages Teacher Kristin Cotter.
