Speech Team Earns Awards at Tournament

The Thayer Academy Speech Team performed well during a recent tournament at Shrewsbury High School and brought home two awards, including the team’s first-ever first-place trophy. 

Paige Johnson ’26 earned first-place honors in the Poetry Reading category. The senior’s performance featured a number of poems on the theme of Alzheimer’s disease. 

The Feb. 28 tournament also saw Ana Sullivan ’27 and Oliver Massey ’28 take fourth place in the Duo Interpretation category. Sullivan and Massey performed excerpts from the screenplay of When Harry Met Sally

“I’m proud of how the team has grown and improved their public speaking skills this year,” said  Upper School English Faculty Misharra Hefler, the team’s head coach, who added that the entire team is thrilled to have earned the program’s inaugural first-place finish.
