Short Play Festival showcases wide array of works

The Upper School’s Short Play Festival featured short plays and so much more, including songs, monologues, poems, and dance.

Held April 25 in the CFA’s Hale Theater, the festival had 15 performances in all. Various students, including students from Thayer’s musical theater classes, offered songs from such shows as Come From Away; Waitress; You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; The Fantasticks; A Chorus Line; Chess; Anastasia; and Shrek the Musical. Other students performed monologues, including one monologue from Shakespeare’s As You Like It and another from Jane Martin’s Talking With. Two students acted in a scene from Lindsay Price’s Anger Management. There were also three dance performances featuring music from Labrinth & Zendaya, Taylor Swift, DaniLeigh, and Chris Brown.

The night also included two original works: Blue Light, a short play written and directed by Cat Sheehan ‘24 and featuring Sheehan, Lily Heaton ‘25, Renee Martel ‘25, Catherine Woods ‘25, and Julia Yezukevich ‘25; and “The Child of Anger Is Not Born Angry,” an original poem by Paige Johnson ‘26.

The festival successfully sought a casual and intimate atmosphere with seating on the stage and offered both performers and audience members a studio workshop vibe.
