Quatromoni Earns Fulbright Teaching Grant

Gianna Quatromoni ’22, who graduated from Clemson University this past May, has been selected for a Fulbright teaching assistantship in Taiwan. 

Quatromoni was one of six individuals from Clemson who recently received U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistant awards, nationally competitive scholarships that support teaching and cultural exchange abroad. 

The Hull native, a language and international business (Chinese) major at Clemson with an economics minor, has studied the Chinese language for seven years. She will teach English to students in Taiwanese classrooms while serving as a cultural ambassador through service work outside the classroom. She will live and teach in the port city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. 

“Applying for this program was the culmination of a year’s work,” said Quatromoni of the grant, which begins in August and runs through June of 2027. Those efforts included calling for interviews with Clemson scholars as well as a deep dissection of the application itself with the help of Quatromoni’s trusted professors. She added that the extensive process allowed her to display who she is in a truly authentic way and to make clear that her abilities and experiences align with Fulbright values. 

Quatromoni’s experiences include teaching math at a summer camp for traditionally underserved students, working as a conversation ambassador with Chinese-speaking students at Clemson, coaching in a middle school basketball league, and volunteering in Taiwanese classrooms. These experiences helped to shape her student-centered teaching philosophy which is focused on building trust and encouraging students to engage confidently in the classroom. 

While in Taiwan, Quatromoni hopes to share her own family traditions by hosting gatherings centered on cultural exchange through food and holiday celebrations. She also plans to deepen her own understanding of the region through independent language study and participation in local sports leagues. 

After completing her Fulbright teaching assistantship, Quatromoni plans to pursue a career dedicated to advancing economic development through education and cross-cultural collaboration on a global scale. 

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through academic and cultural exchange. English teaching assistants support English instruction in host-country classrooms while serving as cultural ambassadors for the United States. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and commitment to community engagement.
