The recent Bring ‘N’ Share celebration at the Middle School brought out families for a great night of cuisine, culture, connection, and even karaoke.

Held Oct. 1 in the Middle School’s Forum as well as its Gill Dining Hall, the annual potluck dinner drew about 75 people, said Middle School World Languages Faculty Richie Iskra, who also serves as the division’s diversity coordinator.

“Families are invited to share their culture and heritage through a dish that they bring and share,” explained Iskra. “The dinner provides an opportunity for families to break bread with one another, to meet families with students in all four grades, and to benefit from Thayer's diversity in real time.”

"Everybody is included in the celebration," added Iskra, "and everyone contributes by bringing a favorite food dish. This fosters a sense of belonging among entire families, including younger siblings, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. The dinner is followed by karaoke, which gives students and families another opportunity to share — this time through music, which is another part of life that we all hold dear and enjoy in a multitude of ways.”
