Bailey-King Author Series welcomes Kirsten King Feb. 9

Thayer Academy and its Bailey-King Author Series will hold “An Evening with Kirsten King ‘10” Thursday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. both in Southworth Library and virtually via Zoom.

King is an LA-based screenwriter whose first film, Crush, debuted on Hulu in April of 2022. A second film, Bastard Queen, is currently in development. She also served as a story editor on a half-hour animated comedy for Amazon Studios. 

Before screenwriting, King worked in the editorial world for more than five years. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Teen Vogue, BuzzFeed, Cosmopolitan, and The Huffington Post. In 2017, King was named one of Go Magazine’s "100 Queer Women We Love."

King, who graduated from Thayer in 2010, is the first alumna to take part in the literary series, which is now in its seventh year. 

The deadline to RSVP is Jan. 30.

Established in 2016 through the generous support of Amelia and Todd Slawsby '88, the Bailey-King Author Series endeavors to celebrate the written word through annual author events at Thayer Academy. Named in honor of longtime English faculty members Betty Bailey '63 and Jim King P '01, '04, '06, the Bailey-King Author Series hosts highly regarded authors on campus to educate budding student writers about careers in writing and inspire them to seek new depths in their own voices.

Past Bailey-King authors include: Derek Green (2017), Dominic Tierney (2018), Kirsten Greenidge (2019), Mira T. Lee (2020), Brit Bennett (2021), and Joshua Bennett (2022).
