120 Miles of Commitment: The Moore Twins’ Journey at Thayer

Most Thayer students live near the school — some right down the road in Braintree, others within a ten-mile radius of campus. For Gabe and Ethan Moore, however, the school day begins and ends very differently, with a 120-mile commute to and from Rye, NH.

The Moore twins, Gabe and Ethan, both seniors, have spent their Thayer careers growing side by side — as teammates, competitors, and brothers. Their path to Thayer began in New Hampshire, where their club coach, Bill Daye, later became Thayer’s varsity boys lacrosse head coach.

Looking back on their arrival and what they’ve meant to the team, Daye said, “Gabe and Ethan were the type of young men we wanted at Thayer and as a part of our community. Besides being talented on the lacrosse field, they are great young men who fit our culture and everything we're continuing to build here as a lacrosse program. I feel very fortunate to have had them here at Thayer. They made our program better, and they will leave a legacy from their time as members of our lacrosse team.”

For Gabe, the decision to come to Thayer was shaped by the relationships he built with the coaching staff long before he enrolled.

“I knew I wanted to come to Thayer ever since Coach Daye and Falvey coached us on our club lacrosse team freshman summer,” Gabe said. “The community at Thayer made the drive down from New Hampshire worth it every day. Coming to Thayer was the best decision I have ever made.”

For Ethan, that same sense of connection came quickly — and left a lasting impression.

Ethan reflects, “The enormous support and love that Coach Daye and Coach Falvey presented to Gabe and me really showed Thayer Academy’s morals and values. In that, I knew that Thayer was meant for us, and it made the 120-mile drive worth it every day. It is a true blessing to have had the opportunity to travel and go to Thayer, and it is a place that will forever hold a special place in my heart."

Since joining the Thayer community, Gabe and Ethan have fully immersed themselves in all that the school has to offer, building meaningful relationships with classmates, teachers, and teammates along the way. Their commitment is reflected not only in the classroom and on the field, but also in their daily journey from Rye, New Hampshire — a dedication that shows how much being part of the Thayer community means to them.

When Ethan suffered an injury earlier this season, Gabe answered the call. Over an eight-game stretch, he elevated his play, recording 25 goals and 29 total points while helping lead the team forward. And when Ethan returned, the transition was seamless. There was no adjustment period and no concern for individual privilege, just two brothers picking up right where they left off.

Next year, Gabe and Ethan will continue their journey together at Colgate University, where they are both committed to play Division I lacrosse. As they close out their final season at Thayer, their story serves as a reminder of the power of commitment, resilience, and the unique bond they have shared every step of the way.
