Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

The students in Art Activities utilize creative expression and different art mediums to promote and support DEIB efforts at Thayer.

The Asian Students affinity space cultivates a safe space and community where students who identify as Asian or AAPI can discuss their own experiences, challenges, and issues that they confront as Asian students.

The Black girl affinity space provides a supportive, affirming space for black female students to be in community and share about their experiences. 

The Black male affinity space provides a supportive, affirming space for black male students to be in community and share about their experiences.

The Christian student affinity space is where students who identify as Christian can connect and share their experiences. Students might discuss what it means to be Christian, and learn about the history of the religion as it relates to daily life at school and our communities.

The Jewish student affinity space is a safe space where people who identify as Jewish can connect and share their experiences. Students will discuss what it means to be Jewish to different people, learn about the history behind the religion, and the stereotypes that could be affecting people daily at school and in their lives.

The LGBTQ+ student affinity group is a safe and affirming space for students that identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community to express themselves and share their experiences.

The Mental Health Awareness Club (MHAC) cultivates a safe space and community where students can discuss their own experiences, challenges, and issues with mental health as well as promote joy and self-care at school.  The MHAC also works to promote advocacy and awareness to reduce the stigma around mental health. 

The multilingual affinity space is for students who grew up speaking two or more languages at home. This group is for students whose primary home language might not be English or whose family switches between languages frequently. Students will discuss their own experiences and challenges in a supportive space.

The multiracial affinity space is for mixed race students or students who hold more than one racial identity. In this group students discuss the emotional and cultural experiences that accompany having multiple ethnicities, different traditions and social/familial expectations.

The Middle School's gay/straight alliance works to improve awareness and acceptance of differences in students' sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Middle School's White Anti-racist group meets in a space where white students come together to share and learn about their racial identity with the intention to grow as community members who promote inclusion and repugn racism.

The Middle School women’s empowerment group works to improve awareness of women’s rights and inspire the TA community to discuss issues, both local and global, in terms of the role of women in society.

Asian Student Association creates opportunities for students and faculty to experience Asian cultures in fun and engaging ways without actually traveling. Through activities related to food, festivals, and traditions, we hope that more people will take interest in Asian culture and thus start to find the diversity of this world fascinating.

The Black Male Affinity Group is a  supportive space for Black male students to be in community and to foster personal growth, resilience, and leadership.

Isokan is the African American/Black affinity group at Thayer, intending to serve as a voice and support group.

The Mental Health alliance group cultivates a safe space and community where students can discuss their own experiences, challenges, and issues with mental health. 

The Mi Gente affinity group is a vibrant community celebrating the rich tapestry of Latino cultures. Our mission is to foster an inclusive space that empowers students to embrace their heritage, share their stories, and amplify their voices. Through cultural exploration, dialogue, and collaborative initiatives, we aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of our roots while bridging connections with the broader Thayer family.

OMEGA (Organization for Minority Enrichment, Growth & Awareness) is the Upper School alliance group committed to enriching and educating the community about diversity, inclusion, and equity in the school.

Thayer’s gay/straight alliance at the Upper School, QUEST (Queer Union for Education and Support at Thayer) works to improve awareness and acceptance of differences in students’ sexual orientation and gender identity.

The mission of Women’s Empowerment Club  is to empower and inspire gender equality initiatives on campus through collaboration, discussions, community engagement, and action plans. We want to uplift women and girls on campus, and celebrate our contributions to our global society.

This group focuses on programming and support for students at Thayer that identify as the first in the family to attend college.
