Basketball - Varsity Girls


2017 Season Preview:

The 2017-2018 Girls Basketball team will look to improve on its successful season last year after making the Class A NEPASC Tournament for the second straight year and winning a tournament game for the first time in twenty years. Thayer returns four starters: ISL First-Team selection and Captain Stephanie Lyons '18; ISL First-Team Selection and NEPSAC Class A All-Star Captian Brittany Raphino '19; ISL Honorable Mention point guard Sabrina Zeghibe '19 and shooting guard Toni Geisel '19. Other returners that will provide depth at the guard position are Cassie Kearney '18, Diana Flynn '18, and Hannah Burrows '19. Jazmin Diaz '18 and Kendall Roland ' 20 will also return to anchor the forward positions. Newcomers Anna Costello '18, Maddie Farrell '20, Cassie Davidson '21, and Aislinn Gibson '22 with look to provide a spark both at the forward and guard positions. Everyone will be counted on to make their mark on the team this year.

Playing in the NEPSAC Class A division, Thayer will need be sharp at both end of the floor to have success playing one of the toughest schedules in New England.

  • William O'Dwyer
    Head Coach
    William O'Dwyer '02 came back to Thayer in the Fall of 2006 after majoring in Elementary Education and Mathematics/Computer Science at Boston College. He was hired to be one of the four core teachers in the sixth grade.  William currently teaches four sections on Mathematics in the Upper School. He is also an advisor to nine students in the freshmen class.  In addition to teaching, William is the head coach of two sports: Girls Varsity Basketball and JV Baseball.  After school, William also teaches the Math ISEE prep class for students applying to independent schools in Grades 6-8.
