Football - JV Boys
Sub-varsity teams are more developmental in nature and playing on a team offers not only a chance to enjoy the sport, but also a valuable participatory experience for each athlete. This applies to all team members from standouts to substitutes who play a supporting role. In keeping with the Thayer philosophy that athletics are an integral part of a student’s curriculum, students should plan their participation with the help of their advisors – this discussion will help everyone gain a better understanding of each child’s overall school program. All sub-varsity participants are expected to receive fairly equal playing time over the course of the entire season. All team information is available via www.thayer.org/TeamSchedules.
Students at Thayer are privileged to be a part of the Independent School League (ISL). This collection of 16 schools shares the highest ideals for school sports and competes in almost every sport Thayer offers. In addition to the ISL opponents, we schedule contests against other members of the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC).

Larry CarlsonAssistant CoachLarry J. Carlson has been teaching and coaching at Thayer Academy for many years. Before arriving to teach, he supervised a dormitory and several athletic activities at a boarding school for students with special needs in Vermont. Since then, he has been active in many aspects of campus life, including academics, athletics, the arts, community government, foreign travel and exchanges, advising students and, most recently, the Thayer Academy Archives. At present, he teaches United States history and Modern European history, but has taught courses on various other subjects, including Russian and Soviet history, Western Political theory and philosophy and World War II. He coaches both football and track and field and performs music annually on Thayer's stage (in the past with his own children, all of whom attended and graduated from the Academy). As the Academy’s Archivist, he helps to preserve and maintain the school's history and traditions by managing the Wentworth Archives (which continues to grow), supervising exhibits, making educational presentations, and participating from time to time in such school events as Founders Day. As have all faculty members at Thayer, he has been Advisor to a small group of students, most often in the 11th grade, but also in other grades. Music, history, athletics and traveling throughout the world remain a big part of his life when not at Thayer. Being a former rugby player and sailor; a regular performer at a local living history museum and, at one time, a member of the cast of King Richard's Faire; and presently a soloist for two performing chorales and a member of two smaller a capella groups, as well as a gardener, beekeeper and an avid reader has and continues to afford him a rich and busy life.
