New Coaches for Thayer Crew

Thayer Academy is excited to welcome two new head coaches to the crew program this fall. Coach Emma Taylor '12 will be returning to Thayer crew for the fall 2017 season as the overall crew program director and head coach for the girls program. She has 9 years of experience rowing and coaching in the New England area. A graduate of Thayer Academy, Taylor was on the Varsity Rowing team for 4 years and captained the team her senior year. After Thayer, Taylor attended Bates College and rowed 4 years on the Varsity squad. While at Bates, Taylor won the New England Championships in the V8 in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and the Eastern Conference Athletic Championships in the V8 in 2014 and 2015. Taylor helped send Bates to the NCAA Division III Championships all 4 years where they placed third in 2014, second in 2013 and 2016, and won the NCAA Division III Championships in 2015. She captained the team during her senior year.

During her summer breaks from Bates, Taylor coached youth and adult rowers at the Cohasset Maritime Institute. After college, she was the volunteer assistant coach with the Radcliffe Heavyweight Women (Harvard University) in fall of 2016. She then transitioned to Thayer Academy and was the assistant coach for the girls team last spring.

Coach Peter Martin will serve as the head boys coach. Previously he was the assistant coach for the boys team. Before coming to Thayer, he's worked as a coach since 2012 with Brooks School, Greater Lawrence Rowing, and the Gentle Giant Rowing Club. Peter he was a coxswain in high school at Canisius High School and in college at Loyola University in Maryland.
