Cassie Kearney '18 Leads Team to NE XC Championship, Boys Finish 4th
At The New England Championship Cross Country meet held at Berkshire School last Saturday, the Thayer girls cross-country team won the New England Championship, and the boys team finished 4th.
Cassie Kearney '18 won the girls race, leading the team to its 4th straight Championship. She also won the ISL meet last weekend at Lawrence Academy for the third time. She is a 3-time Boston Globe All Scholastic and has been the ISL cross-country MVP for 3 years.
Cassie leads an impressive team that includes Katherine Stanwood '18 (2-time New England All Star invitational winner, 3-time Patriot ledger All Scholastic) , Annie Huycke '18, and Lilly Bradley '21, all who were also named All League for 2017, and new-comer Meg Dugan '22 (8th Grade) who was named All League Honorable Mention. Cassie, Katherine, Annie and Meg were also named All New England. "This team was such a pleasure to work with", said girls Head Coach Jeff Browne. "They are such an awesome combination of talent, hard work and great personalities that really supported each other all season. We will really miss the 3 seniors, Cassie, Katherine, and Annie next year."
The boys team finished 4th out of 16 schools, bringing home a plaque for the wall of Cahall. "This result reflects a great race on Saturday, and much hard work over four years for a dedicated group of seniors--good friends, all," said boys Head Coach Joe Pelletier. "They trained hard over the summer, went to a running camp together, and represented Thayer well at all times."
Congratulations to both cross-country teams on an amazing season!
