Thayer’s Robinson excels for Florida A&M Golf

Sascha Robinson ‘24 is enjoying a tremendous first year for the Florida A&M men’s golf team and recently helped the Rattlers to their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) men’s golf championship.

Robinson claimed both “Low Medalist” and “Freshman Low Medalist” honors for the three-day tournament which ended April 16 and was held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham, Alabama. Under head coach Mike Rice, the Rattlers shot a final round 292 (+4) to finish six strokes ahead of their closest challenger. Robinson also earned All-SWAC First Team recognition for his efforts.

The young golfer’s success comes as no surprise to Upper School English Faculty Bo Cramer, head coach of Thayer’s varsity golf team, who saw Robinson’s commitment to excellence firsthand during the alum’s time at Thayer.

“Sascha is a gamer in the truest sense of the word,” said Cramer, who added that Robinson’s rare disappointments on the golf course only fueled his fire to hone his craft even more. “He lives for competition.”

Cramer wished the young alum well and said his accomplishments here at Thayer won’t soon be forgotten.

“As a leader and a role model, Sascha’s impact on the Thayer golf program can’t be overstated,” Cramer said.

And Robinson’s collegiate season isn’t done yet. Florida A&M qualified for the NCAA’s Tallahassee Regional and will compete from May 12 until May 14 at Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida. According to a Florida A&M press release celebrating its bid, the Tallahasee Regional will be broadcast on the Golf Channel

The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA championships (May 23-28) at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.
