Thayer names Suzanne Noone as head coach of varsity field hockey

Thayer Academy has named Suzanne Noone as head coach of its varsity field hockey team.

“I’m incredibly excited to have Coach Noone take over the varsity field hockey team and lead our program moving forward,” said Athletic Director Bobbi Moran. “As a teacher and former Division I student-athlete, Suzanne truly understands all that our student-athletes are encountering both on and off the field. Her experience teaching and coaching in our Middle School program was all I needed to see before I asked her to step into this role. Watching Suzanne work with young people, encourage their growth, and embody the joy that is a part of the game is truly something amazing.”

Moran added that not only was Noone an outstanding collegiate field hockey player but she has also been coaching for club programs and running camps for several years.

“This will add great value as we look to establish our program in the ISL and NEPSAC leagues,” said Moran.

Noone, who led the Tigers to an undefeated season last year as head coach of the Middle School team, said she is eager to build the program to a level where it is contending for league championships.

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to coach Thayer’s hardworking and talented student-athletes,” said Noone. “I hope to provide guidance for players as they develop on and off the field. My goal is to foster an environment which allows players to learn how to be the kind of teammates who rely on one another, face challenges together, and build lasting relationships.”

A native of Belmont, Noone attended Belmont High School where she was captain of her high school team and earned back-to-back First Team All-League honors in her junior and senior years. She collected Second Team All-League honors as a sophomore.

Noone played Division I field hockey for The College of the Holy Cross and was captain for the 2018 season; she achieved Second Team All-Patriot League honors that year in addition to being named an Academic All-Patriot League honoree. Noone was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll throughout her four years in Worcester.

After graduation, Noone accepted a post teaching and coaching at Nativity Preparatory School in Boston where she also coached the boys cross country team. This past fall, Noone began her career at Thayer as a teacher for Grade 6.

Noone founded and still oversees the Belmont Junior Marauders field hockey program where she coaches and runs clinics for elementary, middle, and high school students.

When the season begins in the fall of 2023, Noone will have three assistant coaches: Moran; Anni Zukauskas ‘94 P ‘28, ‘29; and Kayla Florence ‘10, each of whom are excited to bring their own level of independent school coaching and collegiate playing experience to the program.

Prior to the season, Thayer’s field hockey program will offer summer playing clinics and opportunities for both returning and new student-athletes to get to know the coaching staff better.

“I’m thrilled to have Suzanne at the helm of our program,” Moran said.
