Samuel and Samson Okunlola take college football offers in stride

If the football prowess of Samuel Okunlola ‘22 and Samson Okunlola ‘23 was ever a secret, that secret has gone the way of flip phones and fondue parties.

Samuel, a rising senior defensive end, and Samson, a rising junior offensive lineman, are both garnering national attention for their size, speed, and skills on the gridiron. And that attention is translating into offers from big-name programs and media attention from both across the country and here at home.

“It’s all about making the right decision,” Samuel told The Brockton Enterprise’s Greg Dudek in an Aug. 10 article about working hard and maintaining a level head even while fielding scholarship offers from programs such as Clemson and Michigan. The elder Okunlola then explained that his goal is to maximize his potential both as a student and an athlete.

Younger brother Samson maintained a similarly even-keeled attitude in an article about him last October, which was also written by Dudek. Since then, Samson’s recruiting profile has only risen, and he’s seen offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Georgia, and Penn State, among many others.

“I stay as humble as possible,” said Samson. “I got to keep on pushing.”

In both articles, Thayer Football Head Coach Jeff Toussaint ‘82 praised the young men for their hard work, leadership, and commitment to the team.

The Tigers begin their season Sept. 11 and Sept. 18 with away-game scrimmages against Rivers School and Governor’s Academy, respectively, before taking on St. Mark’s Sept. 25 on Ward S. Donner Field as part of Homecoming. For a complete varsity football schedule, please click here
