About
About Southworth Library
The Upper School Library provides a wide range of resources and services to the school community that reflects diverse viewpoints, authors, reading preferences, and interest levels. Students make extensive use of the comfortable environment to do research, complete assignments, and pursue personal interests. The carefully curated print collection promotes reading as a lifelong activity.
Members of the library staff work closely with students to teach information literacy and to encourage the development of independent research skills. Librarians make a special effort to collaborate with faculty and to integrate their instruction with class assignments.
Southworth Library features three small study rooms that can be used in a variety of ways for teaching and collaboration. Students use the study rooms for group study, and teachers use them for seminar-style classes. The McCusker Study Room, equipped with an interactive whiteboard, is the perfect venue for presentations to small groups. The Bakker Reading Room, which provides a warm and inviting space for students, is a favorite room for small community events. Students can also pick from eight study carrels where they can work with a minimum of distraction.
Library resources are selected to support the Upper School curriculum. The library maintains a robust collection of print books and an extensive collection of ebooks and databases to meet the informational needs of the students that can be accessed through the Southworth Library Catalog and TigerGuides. Beyond our collection, we have access to additional databases through participation in the Regional Library System and Greater Boston Cooperative Library Association.

From Bookshelf to Box Office
Librarian Tip
Reading the book before watching its film adaptation opens a world of rich detail and imagination. Comparing the book to its movie counterpart allows you to appreciate the depth and nuances that often can't be fully captured on screen. So, before hitting the cinema or streaming service, immerse yourself in the original story.
