- Suppose you are planning to write a paper about
the assassination of John F. Kennedy. As you
read general articles about the incident, you
might accumulate subject and search terms
such as:
- John F. Kennedy – Presidential years
- Presidential assassinations
- Lee Harvey Oswald (man accused of the assassination)
- Warren Commission (studied the assassination)
- Jack Ruby (killed Oswald)
- Secret Service
- Governor John B. Connally, Jr. (governor
of Texas, where the assassination took
place)
- Bay of Pigs (crisis between Cuba and U.S,
thought to be a factor in the assassination)
- United States -- Politics and Government – 1963-1969
- Here’s a trick:
- Log onto your public library catalog;
find the online catalog.
- Search the catalog by typing “John. F.
Kennedy” in the search box and choose “keyword” as
a search option.
- Click on a title from the list that results
from your search.
- Look at the catalog record, and find the
subject terms in the record.
- Add these subject terms to
your list (that's how I got the last term
on my list)!
