AmericArtes: Celebrating the Arts of Latin America A gateway to lesson plans and web sites focusing on the performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, and people and places in Latin America. Part of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Amnesty International The official web site for Amnesty International, this provides information about human rights abuses around the world, and is an excellent source of information about these situations. Best of History Web Sites "Best of History Web Sites is an award-winning portal that contains annotated links to over 1000 history web sites as well as links to hundreds of quality K-12 history lesson plans, history teacher guides, history activities, history games, history quizzes, and more." British History: The Slave Trade Extensive information about the slave system in America. Has personal accounts, description of the various plantations, slave life, women slaves, and the anti-slavery movement. Caribbean Islands: A Country Study Maintained by the Library of Congress, the site contains information the history, politics and geography of the region, as well as specific country profiles. May be a bit dated. Child Rights Information Network Maintained by a group that follows child welfare, this site addresses issues related to children's lives throughout the world. Searchable by topic or country. The Face of Russia The online companion to the PBS series, described as "a personal interpretation of Russia’s cultural history by one of America’s pre-eminent Russian scholars, James H. Billington." The site contains a timeline, reference sources, a glossary and lesson plans. The History Place: Genocide in the 20th Century Provides links to information related to seven examples of genocide, from the Armenians in Turkey (1915-1918) to Rwanda (1994). History World Contains 400 "histories" which are searchable by title or subject, timelines, and curriculum guides. Human Rights Watch The organization follows issues around the world related to human rights abuse. The site has links to information about situations in many countries, and is searchable. Hyperhistory "HyperHistory is an expanding scientific project presenting 3,000 years of world history with an interactive combination of lifelines, timelines, and maps." Users access information by clicking on the links that appear on a comprehensive timelines. Internet Modern History Sourcebook The Internet History Sourcebooks Project is a collection of public domain and copy-permitted historical texts presented cleanly (without advertising or excessive layout) for educational use. Includes primary sources. Kenya Web A commercial web site designed for tourists, with information about Kenyan government and history. Latin American Network Information Center It's mission is "...to facilitate access to Internet-based information to, from, or on Latin America." The site is a directory containing over 12,000 links to information on Latin America. It is searchable by country, subject, and organization. Life in Elizabethan England A compendium of common knowledge. Includes information about all aspects of daily life, such as food, money, games, occupations, weddings, fashion. The People's Century: 1900-1999 "This Web site is a companion to People's Century, a 26-episode television series broadcast on PBS. The site contains material of interest to a general audience, with special content for high-school educators and students." Includes timelines, thematic overview and teacher's guides. Philosophy Since the Enlightenment The site surveys the major philosophies and philosophers, with brief summaries of both. The philosophers are listed by era, and the site is searchable. Revelations from the Russian Archives Russian archives at the Library of Congress. Contains primary source material. Rwanda Genocide 1994 "This companion web site (to the Frontline program) offers historical background and information explaining why the West lacked the will to act. These online resources can enrich classroom discussion and lectures in both higher and secondary education." The United Nations The official web site for the United Nations. World of the Vikings "The definitive guide to resources on the internet." World War I Created by the BBC, this comprehensive site investigates the causes, events and people of the conflict dubbed the 'war to end all wars'. Australia and New Zealand Resources ABC News Australia Contains information on current topics. The site is searchable, and contains articles filed by Agence France-Presse (AFP), APTN, Reuters, AAP, CNN and the BBC World Service. Aboriginal Art & Cultural Center Contains links to Aboriginal art, books and music. Australia Council for the Arts Contains information about current art events, artists, aboriginal art, dance, theater. Australia's Cultural and Recreational Portal This site is a gateway to web sites that highlight the many aspects of Australia's culture: stories, art, the regions of the country, resources for children. It is fully searchable. Australia's Outback A tourist guide to the Northern Territory, Australia's Outback. Australian Bureau of Statistics The government web site containing facts about all aspects of Australia - population, wages, employment, trade. Australian Government The official web site of the Australian government, this site contains extensive links, organized by subject. Australian Institute of Marine Science "AIMS was established by the Australian Government in 1972 under the Australian Institute of Marine Science Act 1972 in recognition of the importance of marine assets, especially the Great Barrier Reef, to Australia." Center for Australian and New Zealand Studies Hosted by Georgetown University, this site has a rich collection of links to information about these two countries. New Zealand Government Site The official web site of the New Zealand government, with general information about the country and government services.
