A Brief History of the Saturday Enrichment Programs
Thayer’s commitment to citizenship and being a good neighbor is exemplified by the educational opportunities that the Academy offers to the community at large as well as to its own students.

In 1955, under Headmaster Gordon Thayer, a highly effective and unforgettable summer science program was instituted. The program ran until 1971 and served more than 1,000 students from over 40 South Shore communities. In 2004, Headmaster Koskores reestablished this program with a twist; it’s now held on Saturday mornings, includes other disciplines in addition to science, and is targeted at eight to twelve year olds.

Headmaster Koskores notes, "These types of programs have a rich history here at Thayer. Alumni from the 1950's point to the Saturday Science Program from their era as one that inspired and challenged them to deepen their interest in the world of science and, in many cases, launched them on career paths in the sciences."

The 2010 Saturday Programs
for Kids (grades 3 - 6) and Adults
begin on January 9, 2010.
