Athletic Hospitality Tent - Friday, November 3rd from 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. All are welcome at the Main Athletic fields for free snacks, drinks, and giveaways of great Thayer gear while we cheer on our sports teams. Come dressed in your orange and black! Soccer, field hockey, and volleyball games start at 2 p.m. The Girls Varsity Soccer game has tournament implications so you don't want to miss it! (This event is sponsored by TAPA and the Parent Athletic Council.)

Global Scholars Film Series- Poverty, Inc documentary showing at Southworth Library, November 7, 7-9:30pm. Discussion and reception to follow. This is the first movie in the Global Scholars Film Series. Parents, friends, and alumni are invited and encouraged to attend. Free of charge. For more information, email Aidan Rooney.

On Monday, November 6, the Visiting Mexican Artists Program will visit Thayer Academy for presentations about the art and craft of Oaxacan woodcarving. The carvings on display may be purchased by teachers, staff and parents. All proceeds go directly to the artists. Parents can visit Frothingham between 11-2:30 on Monday to see the artists in action and to purchase their works. For more information, click here or email Marc Rando.

"Not Your Average Quilt," Herring Run Quilters Guild Exhibition closes on Nov. 8. The next exhibit is John Judge from Nov. 13-Dec. 14, with an opening reception on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 5-7:30pm.

Monday Morning Meeting: Visiting Mexican Artists Program

A spot has opened up on the India Trip. If you are interested, please contact Darah Harper (dharper@thayer.org) immediately: confirmation will need to be received before 11/8. The India trip will be 11 days; we will leave on December 27th and arrive on the 29th in Delhi where we will spend 3 days covering the famous Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur). On January 2nd we will fly to Hyderabad to spend the next 5 days with our host families. We will return home on Saturday, January 6th. The cost of the trip is $3,600. See here for our itinerary. College Counseling Presentation & Standardized Testing Overview, Tuesday, November 14 at 6 p.m. in Thompson Hall. For parents of students in grades 9-11. The Thayer college counselors will be speaking about the college counseling process and providing information about what parents and students can be doing now to plan ahead. Topics will include: college trends, course selection, extracurricular activities, college resources, and the college counseling program. At 7:15 p.m., a speaker from the Summit Educational Group, will provide an overview of standardized testing options, including the SAT and the ACT.

Notice to Parents of class of 2018: All photos are online as of last week. Seniors have been asked to select a pose for the yearbook . They are being told that if they don't choose their own photo by Nov 2 then we are asking parents to do so for them by no later than Nov 6. (So far only 37 seniors have complied.) After Nov. 6, the editors and adviser will be selecting the seniors' photos for our Nov 9th deadline.

Summer Trip to Spain and Sr. Project Trips: Dec. 1 is the deadline for Applications and Financial Aid Requests for the Summer Trip to Spain and all Sr. Project Trips. Applications will be available by Thanksgiving. Financial Aid requests should be sent by email to Mr. Koskores. Students should explain in a brief paragraph why they want to go on this trip. Cradles to Crayons Donation Drive- On November 6-15 the Middle School will be hosting a donation drive for Cradles for Crayons. Cradles for Crayons is an organization that provides children (infant to age 12) with essential items needed to thrive at home, at school, and at play. All donations can be brought to the Middle School and dropped off in the bins located in the foyer. Click here for donation guidelines. Thank you for your support!

Join the Hale Learning Center for a Snack and Study on Notetaking! Monday, November 13, 2:20-3:05 The last two snack and study sessions have focused on active reading strategies and how to extract meaning from and improve comprehension of what we're reading. In this session, you will learn how to organize the information you've taken from your reading so that you can find it, remember it, and use it. Come to learn how to be an effective notetaker! School is dismissed at 2:15 this week and buses leave at 3:15 so participants WILL be able to take the bus. Room 105 (Mr. Cibelli's room). Please click here to sign up. 7th Grade Community Service Day- On November 15 7th grade students will participate in community service projects in the Greater Boston area. The locations for this year include the Greater Boston Food Bank, Cradles for Crayons, Community Servings, and Heading Home Inc. Homeless Shelter. Upper School Parent Independent School Network (PIN) Meeting, Friday, November 17th - Dana Hall School (45 Dana Road, Wellesley, MA) - Coffee and Registration begins at 9am following by the meeting in Beveridge Hall at 9:30am. Joani Geltman is the featured speaker. With over 30 years of experience working with families, Joani's approach, using humor, storytelling and easy-to-use tools make the job of parenting just a little bit easier.
