Peter J. Benelli Writing Center

Mission Statement

Questions, not corrections; support in place of criticism; and understanding above evaluation.

The Peter J. Benelli Writing Center seeks to foster a cross-curricular, whole-school approach to writing as a process and strives to celebrate the endeavor for all students.

Thayer Academy is proud to announce the opening of a new resource for students of all abilities who wish to enhance their writing skills. The Writing Center is a place where students can come to collaborate in the spirit of collegiality or for help with any part of the writing process - brainstorming, researching, outlining, hashing out a thesis, crafting a rough draft, polishing a final copy. Benelli Writing Center Fellows can assist student writers at any stage of the process and across disciplines. They're trained and eager to help all students with all types of writing (literary essays, poetry, non-fiction, fiction, history research papers, college essays, lab reports, contest entries).
In 1958, Peter Benelli joined the faculty in the English department, and in 1967, became Headmaster. During his 33 years at Thayer, he was esteemed for his writing skills because of the many letters and notes he wrote to former students and their families. It is therefore more than fitting that Mr. Benelli's legacy at Thayer Academy should be the Writing Center - dedicated to the craft in which he has taken such a keen interest.
