Background Information

For International Students

Considering Thayer Academy

Thayer Academy is a college preparatory day school, and the expectation is that students live with their parents or a legal guardian in the local area. Most of our students live within a 30-40 minute commute to our Braintree, Massachusetts campus. We do not have boarding facilities, and we are not able to make arrangements for homestays or any other kinds of living arrangements. As part of the application process, you will need to submit to the Admission Office your plan for living arrangements. We will not be able to admit students without approved living arrangements. Adolescence is a time of growth and change, and to best support students we partner with parents and families to guide our students through this exciting and challenging time in their young lives.

Strong English fluency in speaking, reading, and writing is a prerequisite for all students entering Thayer. We ask all of our students to take the SSAT (or ISEE) test for Middle School. We also require the TOEFL for students whose first language is not English. Thayer's curriculum is challenging and fast-paced, and our subject areas require complex use of the English language. Therefore, we seek students who are fluent and who have strong scores on the SSAT and TOEFL exams. Also note that international students are not eligible for financial aid.

We work directly with interested parents and students and not placement agencies. Please feel free to contact the admission office (781-664-2221) for more information.
