Plan for Diversity, 2011

Thayer Academy's commitment to maintaining a community where families from varied backgrounds feel welcome is demonstrated in many ways, including, but not limited to...

  • The Teaching Fellows Program, one step in Thayer's plan to advance diversity in faculty and staff
  • Partnerships with educational access programs such as the Steppingstone Foundation and Project RISE, hosted on Thayer's campus since its inception
  • The Academy's Board of Trustees, chaired by a woman, includes 29 members, among them, 6 women, and 3 African Americans
  • Thayer's Learning through Travel programs, designed to give students opportunities to experience other cultures and languages

In 2011, Thayer students joined more than 40,000 participants in the 20-mile Walk for Hunger, which begins and ends on the Boston Common.

Let us ...

Challenge all of our assumptions.
Celebrate our multi-cultural heritage.
Move to the beat of different drummers.
Listen to our classmates' life stories.
See the world through the eyes of others.
Walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

Diversity is essential to our mission.
Inclusion is key to our objectives.
