Team Details

Baseball - MS A Boys

Overview

Middle School teams are more developmental in nature and playing on a team offers not only a chance to enjoy the sport, but also a valuable participatory experience for each athlete. This applies to all team members from standouts to substitutes who play a supporting role. In keeping with the Thayer philosophy that athletics are an integral part of a student’s curriculum, students should plan their participation with the help of their advisors – this discussion will help everyone gain a better understanding of each child’s overall school program. All Middle School participants are expected to receive fairly equal playing time over the course of the entire season. All team information is available via www.thayer.org/TeamSchedules.

Coach Info

  • Richard Iskra
Richard Iskra's main responsibility as a teacher, advisor and coach, is to build relationships with students, in which students can feel comfortable in developing themselves as communicators and competitors - as strong community members and steadfast teammates.  Having studied the Classics and art at Williams College, as well as having played football and hockey for the Ephs, Mr. Iskra believes that participation in both the humanities - Latin especially - and in sports can promote ethical, cognitive, artistic and competitive growth.
  • Jamison Smith
Mr. Smith teaches two classes of integrated science (9th grade), one class of Astronomy (12th grade), and one class of AP Physics (12th grade).  In addition to teaching, he coaches MS Baseball in the spring, helps to run the Ultimate Frisbee Club in the fall, and is the 'Coach' of the nascent TA trivia team.  Prior to his time at Thayer, Mr. Smith taught for five years at Worcester Academy, and spent several years as a technology consultant and web developer in the Washington DC area and Boston.Mr. Smith lives in South Boston with his wife and toddler daughter.  He grew up in Western NY, and as such, is a long suffering Buffalo sports fan steeped in the region's forever optimistic motto: there will always be next year.
